So I went to the doctors to get the results of extensive blood tests and he says that I have low thyroid or Pre-Clinical Hypothyroidism.
He says I need to get an ultrasound on my thyroid then a blood test. BUT I have to be off the Duromine for two weeks prior to the blood test.
Not in a hurry as my levels were not that low but he told me my antibodies were elevated. Normal is 60 mine was above 1,000. Don't know what antibodies are, will have to research.
He wrote me another one month script for Duromine and said I am OK to do another month, wait for two weeks then get the blood test done.
Apparently the D can mask the hypothyroidism.
He says that I can't take Duromine while on thyroid medication as the D can interfere.
I am sure there are a couple of people here who are on thyroid meds.
He reckons if I get my thyroid sorted I will lose weight. I'm not convinced.
So I have 6 weeks of tablets left (more if I have a couple of days off) then I will have to go into battle to get more.
Do you have any experience with Duromine and hypothyroidism?
Can you help me and let me know why your doctor says?
I want to go back armed with information and a good case to continue as I honestly think that I am going to need the Duromine for quite a few more months than he is going to want to let me.
Will going to an endocrinologist help?

I recommend going to an endocrinologist. Hypothyroidism could be the reason you are not loosing weight. The thyroid controls your metabolisim and if you are Hypothyroid it doesn't matter how much Duromine you take, your body will not burn that fat. If you take medication for hypothroidism you should find your metabolisim will increase.
There are other medical side effects with hypothyroidism please don't dismiss treatment just so you can continue Duromine. Duromine may assist in weight reduction but fixing your thyroid will have many other benefits too.

    Thanks Lindyloo,
My doctor has given me a referral to go to the endocrinologist. He thinks that if I go on thyroxine I will lose weight but says that I may not have to go on thyroxine, it will be up to the specialist. My GP was not in a rush for me to see the specialist, he said my results show that I am 'pre clinical' and that I may not need to go on medication for months or even years. He suggested I finish my current course of Duromine then go see the specialist. I am ringing them today to make an appointment and will ask if I need to have more blood work done prior and need to be off the D.
I dont think the thyroid can be fixed (?) only treated. Not sure though.
    Thanks again for your reply

Good luck at the doctor Smick!
I think too that even when you off the Duromine, you can still lose some weight.

Hi Smick, that sounds like a good plan. I had Hyperthriodism (Graves Disease) a few years back - weight went down to 50 kilo from 70 kilo in a three month period, resting heartbeat of 120 to name just a few issues. After being on medication for 12 months it started to function within the normal range. I have 6 monthly tests and am now (according to recent blood tests) borderline Hypothyriodism - they say due to how high my levels were when I was hyperthryroid and the damage done to the thyroid I was always then at risk of becoming hypothyroid. I now weigh 82.1 kilo. I've never been overweight but now only have to look at chocolate and put on a kilo haha I guess knowing how much the thyroid function affects the body's ability to control your metabolisim I'd rather be on thyroxine than anything else if it would make a difference. My level are only borderline hyperthyroid so they won't put me on Thyroxine yet. So its Duromine for me now.

Hey, just wondering how you've been going with your thyroid?
Also wondering how much weight you've lost on Duromine with the hypothyroidism?
I'm hypothyroid, I have recently been diagnosed with thyroid disease. The antibodies you were saying you got tested for is to see if it's thyroid disease. Basically means your immune system has mistaken your thyroid for something else and is trying to kill it off.

I lost 8 kg before duromine and completely plateau'd for months.. I've been on duromine for 2 weeks and have only lost 2 kilos! So I am interested to hear the results of someone in a similar situation :)

    @Rhi0601
About 23 kilos in 4 months. Started at 117 so I still have a way to go.
Yet to find out what the go is with the thyroid. Specialist appointment is mid next month. GP thinks if I go on Thyroxin I will lose weight without the Duromine. I'm keen to convince the endocrinologist that I can continue though.
GP also thinks the thyroid is one of the reasons I put on in the first place. I'm not so convinced, I think I ate too much of the right foods (yes RIGHT foods - I have always made healthy choices), my portion sizes were way too big and I did not move enough.
With the D my weight loss was good to begin with and I have had a few hiccups, but I have been super determined to stay on track so have managed to keep losing instead of completely losing the plot.

    That's awesome!!
I genuinely hope your thyroid isn't low..
If you're losing weight though it's unlikely! I was dieting and excercising before I was diagnosed and put on ten kg in two months.. It's pretty much impossible to lose the weight with a low thyroid! I lost a bit of weight once on the meds but once my body got used to those I plateau'd once again! :(
